?Your chances of success in any undertaking can always be measured by your belief in yourself.? Robert Collier
Raising your self-esteem is a process.? Start with baby steps and gradually step out of your comfort zone.
Make a List of Things You Like About Yourself.
Take a few days or even weeks to list 100 different things you like about yourself.? Perhaps you are kind, charitable or organized.? Keep the list and look at a different part of it each day.? In advance of stressful events, take time to read the entire list to remind yourself what you have to offer.
Set Realistic Challenges
Start small by posting a comment on someone?s blog or writing a letter to the editor of a local newspaper.? Later, increase the size of your challenges by taking Dale Carnegie classes, joining Toastmasters, or working towards running a marathon.? Always tell someone about the challenge and accept praise when you accomplish it.
Get Active
Become involved in something that you really care about.? Join a social networking group where you can meet people with common interests (e.g. meetup.com).? Volunteer at a charitable organization, local school board or political campaign.? When you truly believe in making a positive impact, you will gradually forget about being nervous or self-conscious.? With repeate attendance and participation, you will become more comfortable and more engaged in the group?s activities.
Associate with Supportive Friends
As you grow, recognize that those around you may not be on the same path of growth. Family and friends may become uncomfortable with the new you and may even pressure you not to change.? It?s important associate with people who will not criticise you, who accept you, and who you feel able to talk to about your feelings. Having someone listen to you can make your experience seem more real, and can help you to take action.
Hypnotherapy Can Rapidly Improve Self-Esteem and Self-Confidence
I regularly include confidence boosting techniques with clinical hypnosis.? It helps clients become less self-critical and more self-assured.? Hypnosis provides steps to replace self-defeating habits with constructive and positive behaviour patterns.? With hypnosis, your inner critic can become a cheer leader and self-nurturer so you can begin to feel more valuable, competent and deserving.
Research
Interesting research conducted by Robins, R. W., Tracy, J. L., Trzesniewski, K. H., Potter, J., & Gosling, S. D., Journal of Research in Personality (2001) showed that personality indicates self-esteem. ?The study revealed that high self-esteem individuals are emotionally stable, extraverted, and conscientious, somewhat agreeable and open to experience.? A 2008 study showed that liberals are more open-minded, creative, curious, and novelty seeking whereas conservatives are more orderly, conventional, and better organized.? I found it important to note that a study conducted in 2000 showed that self-esteem levels were high in childhood, dropped during adolescence, rose gradually throughout adulthood, and declined sharply in old age. This consistency generally held across gender, socioeconomic status, ethnicity, and nationality.
When you have the tools to raise your self-esteem, life gets better.
