The Forest Service's 4 Point Plan To Ban Mountain Biking in Tahoe

The letter I wrote to them. Submitted to: comments-pacificsouthwest-ltbmu@fs.fed.us

Hello!
I?m a 54 year old Mountain Bike enthusiast. I have been riding Mountain Bikes since 1992.
I currently own and ride both Horses and Donkeys and have so for 12 years.
Prior to that I have been an avid Hiker and Back Packer since 1979.

I have significant concerns with new potential proposals for the Tahoe Area regarding an increase in Wilderness that would reduce the Mountain Bike opportunity.
Tahoe and the Tahoe Rim Trail have become an International Mountain Bike Mecca way point for thousands if not millions of enthusiasts.
I know that one proposal I have read stated a potential revenue loss of approximately $50k.
I?m confident that, that number is significantly lower per other more accurate estimations.

As well, Mountain Biking is a reviving sport from its initial boom in the late 80?s.
I?m still seeking statistics on how many Mountain Bikes are purchased worldwide every hour but will send this to you once accurately obtained.

Responsible Mountain Biking is a low impact activity, contrary to other estimations by Special Interest Groups seeking to remove the activity from our Public Use Lands.

I strongly encourage you to reconsider the closure of any multi-use trails in the Tahoe Area.
As a member of CORBA and IMBA, I stand united with their philosophies and principles of sharing multi-use Trails. Multiple organizations across the United States have been alerted to this much controversial issue and I am confident that there will be the unfortunate bombardment of letters and emails opposing this proposal option.
There are always positive alternatives to closing National Forest to public use, as oppose to designating additional Wilderness that is difficult if not impossible to reverse.

I am a US Citizen, a Tax Payer, a contributor to Society, and I purchase an Annual Adventure Pass yearly.
I strongly feel that I have established equal rights to access and proper use of this natural resource. Trails are established and should remain available.

Finally, I pray that the Forest Service utilize good common sense to benefit all users of our National Forest Areas and to always consider that every organization on an individual basis will always have a bias perspective, and that finding a happy medium in all difficult decisions is always what is best for the general public, whom you serve.

Thank you for your consideration of this input.
I encourage and look forward to your response and wish to be placed on any mailing list of upcoming events, meetings, opportunities to submit input, or decisions prior to their vote or judgment.

Most Sincerely,
Mikie Watson
